May 14, 2012 Theft of Identity of the Dead
I do a lot of probate work and have probated thousands of wills during my career. For most of my career the internet and cyber security were not issues in the probate process. However, that has changed in recent years. As the Dallas Morning News article in the link below outlines, there is a growing problem with identity theft of the dead. There can be serious financial problems for the executors and beneficiaries of an estate. Thus, the article cautions careful monitoring of the identity of the deceased, for up to a year to avoid this problem. If I can ever be of assistance with probate, estate planning or elder law issues, please contact me at 214-691-7781. The Dallas Morning News article is set forth below.
